New Research Findings on Magnetic Therapy
The latest research study synopses brought to you by Links! Magnetic Bracelets:
Well, the latest studies in magnetic therapy that have hit the newswires are debunking the hotly debated "placebo effect" of transdermal magnetics.
Harvard University conducted a study in which patients with osteoarthritis were given either a magnetic sleeve or a dummy sleeve to wear on their affected knees. Research concluded pain reduction occurred after just four hours of wearing the sleeve. The study noted a seven-fold difference in pain relief between patients wearing the real magnetic sleeve and those wearing the "dummy" sleeve. The study team eliminated the placebo effect, since 77 percent of the participants who had been given the dummy sleeve thought they were wearing the "real thing".
The University of Washington recently released a study in which patients were given a magnet to wear on their shoulder. The patients in this study suffered chronic shoulder pain as a result of a previous spinal cord injury. Results indicated that after wearing the magnet for an hour, the patients' pain levels were reduced by half.
Researchers are still unclear as to exactly how the magnetic therapy is effecting such astonishing results. Some of their stated theories include stimulation of blood flow, changes in body temperature, improved oxygenation of the blood, alteration of pH balance, improved electrical conductivity of cells and new cell growth stimulation. The Links! website has more information on the benefits of magnetic therapy.
There is mounting clinical, empirical evidence of the benefits of magnetic therapy as research teams from prestigious institutions such as Yale University, Harvard University, Imperial College - London and the Israel Institute of Technology conclude their studies and report positive effects of magnetic therapy.
